Eastern Gray Squirrel and a Mourning Dove

An Eastern Gray Squirrel and a Mourning Dove (Zenaida macroura) share a meal beneath my tree.

  1. Same here. The only ones I’ve been seeing lately are what I believe is a little family of young squirrels. Probably 5 to 6 of them and they play in the trees higher up on the mountain. I was able to walk half way up there (as far as the good path goes) the other day and they barked and barked at me. It was so funny. I took a few photos but there is really too much cover up there to get any good shots. But I enjoyed watching their young silly antics. I haven’t seen any squirrels close to the house in quite awhile.

  2. I wonder why? I usually have squirrels all year round, but the 8 or so I had in the winter have just disappeared. I know it has been at least a month since I saw one. Maybe they come to eat early in the morning before I get up.
